Dr. Kelso - don't give a crap
This is going to be the one and only time I discuss Britney Spears in my journal (except for that one post I made when she appeared in my dream).

She is a very messed-up individual. No one disagrees with that. She needs real help in order to get better.

If you go to Snarkfest, or other places, you might think that there are only two schools of thought on the issue of Britney Spears. There's Team Rehabilitation: those who sincerely want her to get well, find the help she needs, come out of this and either get famous for making music again, or just have a normal life. Then there's Team Vindictive: those who wish her dead and would clap gleefully once the bitch finally got what was coming to her.

May I point out the existence of the third school of thought, which might get lumped into the Team Vindictive school of thought. For I belong to Team Doesn't Give a Shit.

I do not give a shit about Britney Spears. I would have the same reaction to her death as I would to her rehabilitation: "Meh." I do not care about what happens to her. This does not mean I wish her dead - that would imply that I care either way, and I don't. Thinking that she might die after all this self-destructive behavior catches up to her is not the same as wanting her to die. This is a distinction that some people overlook.

Am I callous for saying that I wouldn't lose any sleep or cry or feel at all sad if she dies? Perhaps. But then again, I don't think I or anyone else is required to mourn whenever a celebrity stops breathing. Some people felt "meh" when Heath Ledger died. That was a death that did move and upset me, but that does not make me a better person than those who didn't really care. Deaths happen all the time. People shouldn't feel obligated to feel sad if one of those deaths is of a famous person. Why should we have to mourn over people we didn't know? People can, and many do, and there's nothing wrong with it, but there's also nothing wrong with saying, "So-and-so died? All right, what else is on the news? Damn, a recession - that sucks."

And that's all I have to say about that.

What? WHAT?! That's just crazy talk! I am shocked and appalled. Leave Johnny Depp. Pfft.
With my LJ name, I got Viggo Mortensen for 27 years. I wouldn't kick him out of bed either.

I can't believe John Ritter's dead. He's Jack Tripper. He's Ted. He's Clifford the Big Red Dog.

What's with all the death this year? First Gregory Hines, now this. At least Bob Hope and Katherine Hepburn were old. The fifties are too young to die.

Rest in peace, John Ritter and Johnny Cash.
