Didn't even watch it yet, but I heard the bad news.
Sawyer and Juliet. Together. Not partners in crime with a begrudging respect. Not even friends with benefits with no real emotion, but actual feelings involved. Actual relationship things going on.
You know, I said before that I wouldn't watch this show - it was losing my interest, got caught in other activities, other shows distracted me, etc. Yet I kept coming back because the island mysteries and character development just kept getting better and better. Basically, I was full of shit whenever I said I wouldn't watch. Of course I was going to watch! It always reminds me how good it is.
But THIS? I honestly don't know if I can bring myself to watch it. I love Juliet so much and I hate Sawyer and I want to take a bath vicariously for her. It's just...gah! Why, WHY, writers, did you do this to me?
What makes it even worse is that I'm SURE Juliet will still be sacrificed on the altar of Kate/Sawyer's True Love Forever. Not only will she be in a relationship with that sleazy greaseball, but she'll turn out being his fucking consolation prize. The ONLY thing that could redeem that horror would be Jack coming to his senses and falling madly in love with her, but even my desired J/J will be tainted with a Sawyer past.
I'd really like to dip Kate and Sawyer in acid. I can't watch scenes with Jack or Juliet anymore without getting angry, and those two are basically my favorites. I'll have to save all my affection for Desmond and Hurley and Sun.

It does, and worse it sets up his tragic hero end even more.
Really, I think Juliet will be the one painted as "second best" since everyone looooves Kate. But your point about Jack being consolation prize is equally valid. They'll probably both be sacrificed at the altar of Kate and Sawyer's True Love Forever.
I think I'll stay with it, but only after being heavily spoiled for every ep. I'll have to avoid any ep with those four characters together (so, most of them) and just turn in for the Ben- or Locke-centered ones. Which probably won't be very many. *sigh*
>:(
This reminds me so much of when Cordy and Connor were getting it on back on Angel, or heck, whenever they tried to get Cordy and Angel together ("Waiting in the Wings" killed me there) and I just had to hold my hand over my eyes until the scenes were over. I was just so nauseated at the thought of either of those two couples that I was tempted to not even watch any more - but the Whedonverse doesn't let a fan go so easily.
I don't want to throw Jack into that black hole. I think he's sexy and I really wanted him and Juliet together. But even that's ruined for me, because if they get together down the line, the Sawyer fangirls who hate Kate for not bowing at his feet and declaring herself unworthy of him have now glommed onto Sawyer/Juliet as their ship of choice, and Jack will just be hated for "ruining" their OTP.
It's like...from what I've heard, S/J are shown to have a very balanced, partner-like, respectful relationship, and that's why people like it so far. I get enjoying a couple that's all balanced and equal, but then I'd have to accept that Sawyer is good enough for Juliet and *worth* her mutual respect, and he's SO NOT. Not even close.
